Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities Dawn Butler MP launches Maturity Matrix in House of Commons
Tuesday 4 June, London: Dawn Butler MP joined Investing in Ethnicity founder Sarah Garrett MBE to launch a revised version of the Maturity Matrix – a tool which helps organisations improve their BAME agenda. The Maturity Matrix has already helped over 50 major organisations including Lloyds Banking Group, HSBC, BBC, KPMG, Deloitte and commercial real estate firm, JLL. Last year Lloyds Banking Group achieved the highest Maturity Matrix ranking thanks to the banking group’s public goals to increase representation of colleagues from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnicities, with a specific focus on tackling representation at senior management level, as part of an ongoing wider commitment to ‘help Britain prosper’. The Maturity Matrix was devised based on feedback from surveys, Action Groups, key inclusion professionals, and reports on ethnicity and race in the UK workforce. The tool uses a checklist format to help companies easily stay on track with the progression of their ethnicity and race agenda. Completed Maturity Matrixes must be submitted to investinginethnicity.com by 30 June 2019. Those who score highly in the Maturity Matrix will be honoured at an Awards ceremony taking place at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London on Friday 25 October 2019, where business leaders and brands with a track record of promoting diversity will also be recognised. Speaking at the launch event, Dawn Butler MP said: “There’s no better time to ensure businesses are investing in ethnicity and race than right now. It’s really important that we get this right, it's really important that we move companies forward, that we talk about race and the race pay gap; that we talk about BAME people in positive ways. “We must ensure that organisations understand the value of the people in their workforce and ensure that BAME employees have equal access to opportunities and career progression.” Investing in Ethnicity and SPM Group founder, Sarah Garrett MBE, added: “The most successful businesses must continue to think inclusively and embrace diversity within their workforce. As new research shows that 71% of people from ethnic minorities are still facing racial discrimination throughout British society, it’s more important than ever for companies to tackle inequality and drive diverse perspectives.” The Maturity Matrix can be downloaded from investinginethnicity.com and should be submitted by 30 June 2019. |
